DTG Pre – Treatment Liquid

DTG pretreatment fluid is formulated to enhance Encre DTG bonding and color vibrancy, it helps ensure consistent print quality, strong wash resistance, and reliable daily production results.

If you are utilizing a DTG (Direct-to-Garment) printer, there is one crucial step that you must not overlook — pretreatment. Although it is a simple process, it greatly influences how the DTG ink performs, affecting the quality and longevity of your final prints.

When do you need Pre – treatment?

To achieve results of a professional standard with your Holdwin, applying the appropriate pretreatment is a crucial step in the production workflow.

Dark & Black Textiles: Required for all dark-colored garments to ensure that the white ink underbase is positioned on top of the fibers instead of soaking in.

High-Contrast Designs: Necessary for any print that requires a white ink layer to attain full color vibrancy and opacity.

Enhanced Durability: Recommended for heavy cotton blends to improve wash-fastness and prevent fiber ‘fibrillation.’

When It Is Not Essential:

White & Light Garments: Pretreatment can be omitted for white or very light-colored shirts where no white ink underbase is utilized (CMYK only).

Certain Synthetic Blends: Depending on the ink set, some light-colored polyester blends may achieve satisfactory results without a complete liquid coat.

How to Pretreat a Garment?

Step 1: Preparation & Mixing

Before application, shake the pre-treatment fluid thoroughly.

Step 2: Uniform Application

Apply a smooth, consistent coat across the printing area using an automatic pre-treatment machine or a high-quality manual sprayer.

Distance: Maintain a spray height of 18–24 inches (45–60 cm) from the garment.

Coverage: Ensure the surface is damp

Step 3: Fiber Flattening & Curing

Use a professional heat press to dry the solution and create a smooth printing surface.

Temperature: Set your press to 160°C (320°F).

Time: Press for 30–45 seconds with medium pressure.

Step 4: Cooling & Degassing

Allow the garment to cool completely to room temperature before loading it into the DTG printer. This prevents steam from interfering with ink bonding.

Note: To guarantee the longevity of print durability and to avoid staining of garments, DTG pretreatment fluid must be kept in a cool, dry place, shielded from direct sunlight, and the container should be securely sealed to preserve chemical stability.
