DTF vs Sublimation vs DTG: Which Printing Method Fits Your Business?

DTF vs Sublimation vs DTG: Which Printing Method Fits Your Business?

Picture a typical day: an order for full-color black cotton tees, an inquiry for custom polyester athletic jerseys, and a request for a single photo print on a shirt. Trying to execute all three with a single printing technology will compromise either quality, efficiency, or cost.

DTF, Sublimação, e DTG each excel in specific areas. Key parameters like fabric composition, garment color, and operational volume dictate which technology fits best.

Backed by over 15 years of digital printing expertise—supplying equipment, inks, transfer media, and technical support—HOLDWIN helps businesses navigate these choices. Rather than offering a generic recommendation, we evaluate three critical factors: your target fabrics, expected daily production, and available facility space.

How Do DTF, Sublimation, and DTG Printing Work?

Everything hangs on one question. How does the design reach the garment? The answer affects fabric choice, print feel, and finishing time.

DTF Printing: Transfer Designs from Film to Fabric

Direto para o cinema, that’s the full name. Printer puts the design on PET film, colored ink plus white. Adhesive powder next. Cure it, then a heat press pushes the whole thing onto the fabric.

Cotton? Fine. Polyester? Fine. Blends? Also fine. Light or dark garments, both work. Shops that switch between products all day get real value from this. The catch is speed. Powder curing, then heat pressing. Every single order.

Sublimation Printing: Best for Polyester Fabrics

Sublimação runs on special ink and heat transfer paper. Heat does the rest of the work. It turns the dye into gas, and the gas works its way into the polyester fiber itself.

No extra layer on the surface afterwards. The shirt still feels like a shirt. Sportswear, flags, curtains — anything polyester basically. Our sublimation printer range covers different widths for different production needs.

But conventional sublimation needs white or light polyester. Dark cotton? Not happening. An opaque design can’t go straight onto ordinary dark cotton garments.

DTG Printing: Print Directly onto Clothing

DTG stands for Direct-to-Garment. The machine jets water-based pigment ink straight onto the garment. Cotton tees are its home turf. Same for personalized clothing and photo-style prints. Dark garments usually need pretreatment first, a step people often forget.

Our DTG printer range covers both smaller custom orders and larger garment production.

The film is gone, sure. Loading, curing, machine upkeep. None of that disappears.

Which Holdwin Printer Should your Business Choose?

Different order volumes call for different machines. Bigger head count isn’t automatically better. Match the machine to real production.

DTF Equipment for Custom Apparel Shops

Regular custom orders? Start with the HOLDWIN-602I DF602B. Two Epson i3200 printheads, a 600 mm effective printing width, and a matching powder shaker in the package.

You can arrange several designs together on the film. T-shirts, hoodies, bags — whatever comes in.

Four-head configuration is the next step once orders pick up. One warning. Check your heat pressing equipment first. A fast printer feeding a slow press only moves the problem elsewhere.

Our guide on what to consider before buying a DTF printer goes deeper into printing width, printheads, curing, and workspace.
